The blade is D2, the same high-carbon high-chromium tool steel used in the full-size Claymore 3370GY-1 and the Benchmade Infidel OTF series. D2 delivers exceptional wear resistance and edge retention compared to fully stainless production steels, at the cost of requiring regular oiling and drying to manage surface oxidation — the correct tradeoff for buyers who want maximum edge longevity in an OTF. The black coating reduces reflectivity and provides a hard surface layer between maintenance cycles. Black Grivory (glass-filled nylon) handle scales are rigid, moisture-resistant, and keep the Mini Claymore in the compact carry tier.
